Oral history interview, 1990 October 20 and 31. 1990.

The Patricia (Marie) Ann Shea collection contains two audiocassettes and one transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Shea and John J. Hand during the fall of 1990. In the interview, Shea discussed her experiences as a secondary school teacher from 1948 through 1990. She recalled three major issues: the conflicts between sports and academics, the willingness of students to respond to teachers who set clear expectations, and the causes and affects that caused the dismissal of the Emmetsburg, Iowa public school superintendent during the early 1970s. Shea retired in 1988 but left retirement to work as a long-term substitute teacher during 1990. This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for the graduate level Educational Foundations course entitled History of Education in American Culture at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
